Mechanical Drum - Complete

  1. 1. I liked this project because it was different than other things I have done in tech classes so that was cool.
    2. If we were to redo the mechanical drum I think we should have spaced the holes farther apart and shortened the pegs at the end.

  2. 1. I enjoyed the project because we actually got to build what we sketched and designed on inventor. In previous courses we never got to build what we sketched and made on inventor so I really enjoyed getting to build our design.
    2. If I could redo this project I would make the pegs on the drive-gear a bit longer so that they would interlock better with the rotating cylinders. I also would have wanted to use washers to suspend the rotating cylinders instead of duct tape so that they could rotate more freely.

  4. 1. I enjoyed this project because it combined our knowledge of prior tech classes along with new material and we physically got to design and build our recreations.
    2. If I could change anything with our project I would make the drumsticks swing better horizontally instead of tiping and not fully making contact with the pegs on the rotating cylinders. I would also like to spread out the components more so there is less room for error throughout the drum.

  5. I thought the project was a great experience because we went from start to finish. We saw a design, reverse engineered it, built a working digital model, used multiple different production methods to build a scale model based on design drawings, and then analyze the uses and importance of the design through a report.
Overall, I liked our project very much, but if we were to redesign it, I would want the axle of the drive gear on the bottom, so the axles of the output gears could extend into the base of the wood to reduce their x-z plane motion. For the same reason, the net time around I would lasercutter the top piece so their were less alignment issues.
